The other day I was re-reading my old prayer journals. The ones dating back to the fall of 1998 specifically and several others written during our first year of church planting. I couldn't help but notice a couple of things.
* I sounded really scared and desperate for God to do something
* I prayed a lot
* I had lists of people, many of whom I still know. Sometimes the entry would be a person's name or a simple request.....things like.....Scott.....met at Bicycles plus,.....pray for him to become a world leader. Or pray for Char.......baby and job. All real life situations that were actually guided by prayer.
* I'm convinced that prayer shapes the future. It seemed that just about everything we prayed for came to pass these last ten years. Not perhaps every single last request, but I had a strong sense that the prayers of years gone by have shaped the life of our church and even our community, more than just about anything else.
